LOCATION BASED EXPERIENCES:
GENERAL GUIDANCE
-
DARKFIELD has capacity for at least one wheelchair/power chair access space in all shows.
Each show takes place in a shipping container. In most containers, the access space is a house seat near the entrance. The seat needs to be taken out to allow space for the wheelchair/power chair.
Wheelchair/powerchair users are welcome to either stay in their chair during the show (in which case the house seat will be taken out and we will be able to accommodate one wheelchair/powerchair user) or we can assist with a transfer to one of the house seats.
-
Each show has a different seating arrangement. Please refer to show specific Audience Access Packs for more information.
Our staff are able to meet patrons who need more time to take a seat ahead of the show. Please make sure to let us know if you need assistance at access@darkfield.org.
There is a step at the entrance of the containers, but we are able to provide a ramp for step-free access.
Mobility aids such as canes and crutches can be brought into some shows. For others, our staff are able to look after them during the show to avoid the risk of damage.
-
To book a touch tour for any show, please email us on access@darkfield.org
Shows happen in complete darkness and are inherently audio-descriptive.
Some shows have very limited visual elements, which are described during touch tours and in the access packs.
White canes can be brought into some of the shows. If not, our staff is able to look after them during the show to avoid the risk of damage.
-
Due to the nature of the shows, we are not able to incorporate BSL/captions - shows rely on complete darkness and immersive sound.
We might be able to accommodate patrons with partial hearing loss. To learn more, please contact us directly at access@darkfield.org.
-
We do not recommend DARKFIELD shows to patrons suffering with severe anxiety, PTSD, claustrophobia and hallucinations.
Content warnings are different for each show, please refer to show pages, FAQs, or Audience Access Packs.
During the show, the audience wears headphones. We are unable to accommodate patrons using their own headphones.
You can expect some loud sounds during the shows. Patrons who are easily overstimulated by sound are recommended to wear earplugs that will still allow them to understand the dialogue under their headset. Patrons need to bring their own earplugs.
There is a compulsory Health & Safety briefing before each show. If you require a written brief instead, please let us know at access@darkfield.org - please be aware that you are still required to be physically present for the verbal briefing.
-
It is the responsibility of pregnant patrons to decide if DARKFIELD shows are suitable for them.
Sensory effects used in some shows might not be comfortable for pregnant patrons. Please refer to Audience Access Packs for further information.
Audience Access Packs contain detailed information on the set, seating, and exact measurements for patrons who would like to know what to expect.
-
Vocal tics are not a problem, as the audience wears noise-cancelling headphones.
We advise that patrons experiencing motor tics familiarise themselves with Audience Access Packs to assess if the experience is safe for them to attend.
Each show has a different set and seating arrangement. In some shows, patrons seat close to one another, while others require the audience to sit in laundry cages or lay down in bunk beds.
It is the responsibility of the patron to assess if the experience is safe for them and if their physical tics won’t put them, their companions, and other audience members at risk of getting hurt.
In case of any questions, please contact us at access@darkfield.org
-
Service animals mustn’t be brought into the shows for their own safety. Shows happen in complete darkness, with the use of sensory effects and loud sounds.
Please be mindful that our staff might not be able to look after a service animal during the show. If you wish to bring your service animal with you, you can contact the venue directly and see if they are able to assist.

We do not offer audio-described shows in the traditional meaning, because all of our shows are inherently audio-descriptive - blind and visually impaired audiences have the same experience as the sighted audiences since the shows rely on sound and sensory effects and take place in darkness. Some of our shows have small visual effects, which are signified by audio during the show and described to blind and visually impaired patrons during touch tours.

Verbal ticks are not a problem, as audience members wear noise-cancelling headsets. If you experience physical tics, such as sudden movements, we do ask that you familiarise yourself with the Audience Access Pack before you book your ticket and make a decision that you deem safe for yourself and others.
